Gerhard Richter
Gerhard Richter is my favorite of the modern German painters. There are many Germans making great painting today. They include Anselm Kiefer, George Baeselitz, Rainer Fetting, Sigmar Polke, Markus Lupertz and Martin Eder. Richter, Polke and Eder are my personsal favorites.
Three other German artists, who passed away, are very influential and worth mentioning: Joseph Bueys, Jorg Immendorf and Martin Kippenberger.
Richter has amazing painterly skills. He can work in many different veigns including representational, photorealist, abstract and conceptual. I loved his work from the first time I saw it, which was back in 1986.
